Prepare ye the way of the Lord…
Advent is about preparing the way for the Lord to come into our midst. We do that with lighting candles as a sign of Christ’s coming. We also do it through our actions.
When John the Baptist warned others that they should prepare for the coming of Christ it was not meant to be a casual preparation. It was not even as busy as the way we prepare for the holidays. It was an invitation to put their faith into action… If they had two coats, to give away one. It was an invitation to fight for justice… to bring the mountains low and raise up the valleys so as to make a highway.
As we prepare for Christmas, it is easy to set aside our calling to fight against injustice and care about our neighbors. It is easy to say that we don’t have time to learn what is going on in our neighbors’ lives or even do a one on one with someone else in the church. But every time we build a real relationship, learning what is important to another person and why, we are taking down the mountains and building a highway… we are learning how to love someone. A lot of times we presume we know… they need clothes, a worship service, a present, a toy. But have we asked even other church members what is important to them? What are their hopes and fears?
Jesus came among us to know us… to learn our hopes and fears, to understand what is really important to us. If we truly want to honor him, the least we can do is take the time to do some one on ones with those he came and died for to save.

Prepárense el camino del Señor…
Adviento es una temporada para reparar el camino del Señor entre nosotros. Lo hacemos por encender velas como señal de la luz venidero de Cristo. Lo hacemos también a través de nuestras acciones.
Cuando Juan el Bautista advirtió a otros que debían preparar para el adviento de Cristo no era para hacer una preparación casual. Aún no debía ser una preparación largo como lo que hacemos durante vacaciones. Era una invitación de poner su fe en acción… Si tenían dos mantos, debían dar uno a alguien en necesidad. Era una invitación para luchar para la justicia… de rebajar montañas y rellenar los valles para hacer una carretera.
Mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad, es fácil poner al lado nuestro llamado de buscar justicia y cuidar a nuestros vecinos. Es fácil decir que no tenemos tiempo para aprender lo que pasa en las vidas de nuestros vecinos o aún que no tenemos tiempo para hacer una visita uno a uno en la iglesia. Pero cada vez que establecemos una relación real, aprendiendo lo que es importante para otra persona y por qué, rebajamos montañas para hacer una carretera… aprendemos cómo amar a otro. Pero ¿hemos aún preguntado a otros miembros lo que es importante para ellos en sus vidas ahora? ¿Cuáles son sus esperanzas y miedos?
Jesús vino entre nosotros para conocernos… para aprender nuestras esperanzas y miedos, para entender lo que es importante para nosotros. Si en verdad queremos honrarle, lo mínimo que debemos hacer es tomar el tiempo para visitar a los que él vino para salvar con su vida.

Although the turnout wasn't as we would have hoped it to be, for our November 17 organizing action, I believe we energized our leaders, opened peoples’ eyes, and helped us learn more about one another. Even though you might think the healthcare challenges of Tarrant County don’t involve you because you are in good health and/or you have healthcare, Jesus calls us to love our neighbors and I challenge you to say to me "Your family's health is not my problem". We are our brother’s keepers. All we simply ask is for you to hand out a booklet, so that someone who doesn’t have health insurance might have the opportunity to buy it for themselves.

Aunque la asistencia no era lo que esperábamos en nuestra reunión para organizar el 17 de noviembre, creo que dio energía a nuestros líderes, abrió los ojos de otros, y nos ayudó a conocernos los unos a los otros. Aunque usted piensa que los desafíos del cuidado de salud del condado de Tarrant quizás no le afecta porque tiene buen salud o tiene seguro, Jesús nos llama a amar a nuestros prójimos y les desafío a decirme a mí que “La salud de tu familia no es mi problema.” Somos los guardadores de nuestros hermanos. Congregational Development Process by Douglas Abernathy
Recently our congregation has made the commitment to work together to develop leadership, clarify our mission and direct our action so that we can really bring the Gospel to life in our community. In our last church-wide gathering on October 27, we began looking at the “culture” of our congregation. We used the term "wears many hats" to describe how it is easy to let the same people in our congregation take care of everything. Our Biblical reference was from Exodus Chapter 18. Are we like Moses, who initially tried to help his people by doing every little thing? Or can we be more like Moses after he listened to his father-in-law Jethro and selected people to become leaders? Do we do it all on our own or are we willing to develop other leaders? On Sunday, December 8, at our next Congregational Development gathering (and pot luck!), we will look more closely at what the mission of the church is, in other words, what does the Church do? This question applies to the greater Christian church world wide, but also must be considered locally at Gethsemane. We especially want to reach out to our members that do not attend as regularly, to make an extra effort to come to this event. So please consider offering to bring someone who may have transportation issues, and to make special invitations to our church family members that we don't see as often.
Proceso de Desarrollo Congregacional por Douglas Abernathy
Recientemente nuestra congregación hizo el compromiso de trabajar juntos para desarrollar liderazgo, clarificar nuestra misión y dirigir nuestra acción para que podamos en verdad llevar el evangelio a nuestra comunidad. En la última sesión del proceso, el 27 de octubre, empezamos por el considerar la “cultura” de nuestra congregación. Usamos el metáfora “llevar muchos sombreros” para enseñar cuantos papeles algunas personas en nuestra congregación tienen para tratar de cuidar de todo. Nuestra referencia bíblica era del Éxodo 18. ¿Somos nosotros como Moisés que insistió hacer todo sí mismo? O ¿Podemos ser más como Moisés después de recibir los consejos de su suegro entrenando a otros a ser líderes? ¿Estamos dispuestos a desarrollar a otros líderes? El domingo, el 8 de diciembre, nuestra próxima sesión de desarrollar la iglesia (con comida), examinaremos lo que es la misión de la iglesia o ¿qué hace la iglesia? La pregunta es importante para toda la iglesia cristiana en el mundo, pero tenemos que considerarla en Getsemaní en particular. En particular queremos alcanzar a los miembros que no asisten regularmente con este evento. Entonces por favor consideren ofrecer un “ride” a alguien que lo necesita, y inviten a los que no vemos mucho.
Regional Organizing Training - Bernabe Martinez Jr.
I would like to thank the church/session for giving me the opportunity to go to the training. The experience is unique since I got to meet people from different states, culture and beliefs because the training is open to all of of those that want to make a difference in their congregation, schools, communities ...
I'll continue working in the congressional development process and share along the training I received with others.

Quiero agradecer a la Iglesia/ la sesión por haberme dado la oportunidad de ir al entrenamiento.
La experiencia es única pues pude conocer a gente de diferentes estados, culturas y creencias ya que el entrenamiento está abierto para todos aquellos que quieren hacer una diferencia en sus congregaciones, escuelas, comunidades...
Seguiré trabajando en proceso de desarrollo congregacional y compartir el entrenamiento que recibí con otros.
